Federal Labor MP Ed Husic has been hospitalised following a serious three-vehicle crash which has left him injured and hospitalised.
The incident occurred at about 6:20 p.m. on Aug. 4, as Husic was travelling along the M7 at Dean Park on his way home from his electorate office.
A statement on Husic’s social media said the MP’s Tesla was hit from behind by a truck travelling at around 80 kilometres an hour.
“Mr. Husic was transported by paramedics to hospital for assessment and treatment,” a spokesperson said.
“He was discharged on Wednesday, Aug. 5, with minor abrasions, fractures and a concussion.
“Mr. Husic was not at fault in the accident and is providing a statement to police.”
Husic is set to take a short period of leave from his parliamentary duties as he recovers.
“Mr. Husic thanked the doctors, nurses and paramedics at Westmead Hospital for providing him with outstanding care and thanked his family and friends for their support, especially during his hospital stay,” the spokesperson said.
“He said he looked forward to returning to full parliamentary duties shortly and assured constituents his electorate team would continue to support the people of Chifley in the meantime.
“Mr. Husic was extremely grateful to walk away from the accident without more serious injury.”
Cars Towed After Crash
The New South Wales Police Force told The Epoch Times that multiple police and ambulance crews attended the crash.
They said Husic was initially treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
The 70-year-old driver of a Mazda utility and a 43-year-old man driving a Kenworth B-Double truck were uninjured despite being involved in the smash.
All three vehicles required towing from the scene, according to police.
“Officers from Riverstone Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the incident,” the police spokesperson said.

Husic’s Political Career
Husic, 56, has represented the western Sydney electorate of Chifley since 2010.
The backbencher served as a minister during Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s first term but was dropped from the frontbench shortly after the 2025 election as part of a factional deal.
He currently serves as chair of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Economics.
In July, Husic appeared at Labor’s national conference to push for a tougher party stance on Israel, but the motion was ultimately rejected.
