Health Canada Pulling Popular Hair Product From Shelves Due to Safety Issues With Packaging

Health Canada is recalling a popular hair product because packaging issues with the bottle can cause it to leak and explode.

The federal agency announced on Sept. 21 the recall of 90,089 units of Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Mousse 6.76 fl oz/200 mL because it poses an injury hazard to consumers.

The affected products were sold from ​November 2023​ to ​June 2026​, manufactured in Hungary, and sold through Henkel Consumer Brands Canada Corporation in Mississauga, Ont.

“The recalled product has packaging issues, which can cause the product to leak from the package when under pressure. The leakage and resulting pressure may cause the package to burst, which could result in injury or property damage,” Health Canada said on its website.

It added that as of Sept. 18, the company had received one incident report and no reports of injury in Canada.

There are 25 lots affected by the recall.

Health Canada says customers who own this product should stop using it immediately and return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

FDA Issued Similar Recall

Health Canada’s recall comes more than a month after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took similar action, as the product was distributed across 12 states.

The FDA issued a notice on Aug. 11 after the company received one customer complaint and two salon-reported complaints.

The customer suffered bruising on a hand during an incident. No other injuries had been reported at the time.
