White House Unveils Official Schedule for Trump–Xi Summit Next Week

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump is set to host Chinese leader Xi Jinping at the White House on Sept. 24 and 25 for a high-stakes summit.

The White House announced the official summit schedule Friday evening.

On Sept. 23, Trump will welcome Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan at Joint Base Andrews, where they will attend an arrival ceremony, White House spokesperson Anna Kelly told reporters during a call.

On Sept. 24, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host Xi and his wife for an arrival ceremony on the State Floor of the White House, followed by a military review in the Rose Garden and a bilateral meeting.

That evening, Trump and the first lady will host the Chinese delegation for a state dinner in the East Room, where both leaders will deliver opening remarks.

On Sept. 25, Trump and the first lady will host Xi and his wife for a private tea at the White House. The couples will then tour the National Archives to view key founding documents as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration, Kelly said.

The visit will conclude with farewells before Xi and his wife depart from Joint Base Andrews.

When asked about recent rumors that Xi was hospitalized following last week’s BRICS summit in India, a senior administration official said plans remain unchanged.

“We have no reason to believe that there’s been any alteration to Chairman Xi Jinping’s travel plans,” the official told reporters.

The two leaders will meet for the first time since Trump visited Beijing in May. The next week’s summit comes at a critical time, as both China’s rare earth export control suspension and the broader U.S.–China tariff truce are set to expire on Nov. 10.
